Ethiopian foreign minister blames Egyptians of pretending not to continue with the fact on the table
Ethiopian foreign minister, Gedu Andargachewu, blames Egyptian negotiators of not continuing with the basic principle of natural resource. In the latest explanation of the minister as reported by Fana Broadcasting Agency, the negotiation between the three countries has not as fruitful as expected.
Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt are negotiating to resolve the issue of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. The Dam of $5 Billion dollar project is on its way to start filling of the reservoir in the coming July.
According to Ethiopian Foreign ministry, The Egyptian claims has ma place to answer when they consider the right of sharing Natural resources.
“Egypt came to the latest negotiations with one leg on the talks and another aimed at lodging complaint to the UN security council,” the local broadcaster Fana quoted Ethiopian foreign minister Gedu Andargachewu.
Therigid approach of Egyptian has hardly challenged the ongoing negotiation said Gedu Andargachewu of the Ethiopian Foreign Minister. Mutual benefit of Nile basin countries should be respected. When is comes to Ethiopian side, it is quite unfair to hear that Egypt is in denial or ignoring not to accept Ethiopian right of sharing Water resource, which is 80% of the Nile river flowing from Ethiopia.
Talks between the three countries resumed this month after having been suspended since February after a series of meetings held in Washington under the auspices of the US, UN and World Bank.

Ethiopia launched the $5 Billion GERD project in 2011 at a site 25 kilometers(15.5 miles) from its border with Sudan.
Egypt has claimed that the dam would reduce the flow of Nile Water to the downstream while Ethiopia maintains that it needs the dam for national development as well as regional energy needs.
Ethiopia hopes to retain 4.9 billion cubic meters of water during the coming rainy season in July and August as part of the first phase filling and the volume would be enough to test two turbines in mid of 2011.
It is hardly clear whether the negotiations start in the near future or not. The Sudanese government is quite optimistic in the progress made so far and hopeful to resume the talks as soon as possible.
