The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, GERD is not only the economic development, it is also the legacy of our generation.
Ethiopia said on Tuesday, July/ 21-2020 that its first year target has been reached for filling a mega dam on the Blue Nile Rive, ABBAY. The announcement from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office indicated enough water had accumulated to enable his country to test the Dam’s first two turbines. Astonishingly, July 2020 is the beginning of important milestone with living greatness and equality to human species.
Egypt has agreed with Ethiopia and Sudan to priorities reaching a binding deal on the filling and operating of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a statement from the Egyptian presidency read on Tuesday following on the tripartite agreement by the African Summit on the issue.
The statement read, ” It was agreed to continue the negotiations in the current time to reach a binding legal agreement on the rules of filling and operating the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), while work will continue later to reach a comprehensive agreement on the types of joint cooperation between the three countries concerning the use of the Nile.”

The mini-summit hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the current head of the African Union, and five other African Countries head of the state as observers. The Egyptian statement also highlighted President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi’s appreciation for the efforts of Ramaphosa.
In a separate statement, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdock also said that the technical talks on the Mega-Dam would be resumed.
Filling Of The Dam Started and First-year filling target achieved
Ethiopian Prime Minister and The Nobel prize laureate Abiy Ahmed said that the first year target for filling the GERD has been reached and two countries Sudan and Egypt have agreed to further technical discussions on outstanding issues as part of an African-led process.
The statement said that the current rainfall and runoff situation in the region have made it “conductive” to fill the dam, and that “it has become evident over over the past two weeks in the rainy season that GERD first year filling is achieved and the dam under construction is already overtopping.
” I appreciate my brothers [Hamdock and Ali-Sisi] for common understanding reached on continuing technical discussions on the filling ,” Dr. Abiy Tweeted on his official account on Tuesday.
The Sudanese Irrigation minister said, ” if the suggestions was approved, it would give Ethiopia the right to amend some numbers concerning the operations of the Dam and it would disengage the two demand for first filling and operations and endorses the right to future development projects. ” Abbas also added that Ethiopia had promised to consider the Sudanese proposal and that solving the main issue by facilitating to reach a compromise on the over all other issues.
